Realty Compass was established in 2012 by Nimesh Bhandari, Sankara Srinivasan, and Alok Mishra as a real estate technology firm based in Chennai, India. The company developed a property search engine designed to provide comprehensive details on real estate projects for consumers. Initially launched in Chennai, the platform expanded its services to other major Indian cities, including Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Coimbatore, with plans for further expansion into Mumbai and Pune.
The business operated as an online platform that facilitated detailed property searches, offering features such as builder ratings and locality insights to aid user decision-making. Its model focused on aggregating data for new project launches and tracking price trends, generating leads for builders. At one point, the platform had listed nearly 4,000 projects and was generating approximately 6,000 leads per month for the 300 builders it had partnered with in Bangalore and Chennai. The company derived its ratings and user recommendations from over 100 data points concerning the projects and the builders involved.
In November 2013, Realty Compass secured an undisclosed amount of seed funding from Propel Holdings LLP. The company's trajectory culminated in its acquisition by the cross-category classifieds business Quikr in December 2015. The acquisition was part of Quikr's strategy to bolster its real estate vertical, QuikrHomes, and enhance its offerings with Realty Compass's analytics capabilities. Following the acquisition, the plan was for Realty Compass to continue operating as a stand-alone portal while integrating its analytics products.
