In 1986, Senthil Kumar and Jayendra Panchapakesan founded Real Image Media Technologies in Chennai, India. Their mission was to introduce cutting-edge media technologies to the Indian market. The company made its first significant mark in 1993 by bringing computer-based non-linear editing to India, fundamentally changing how film and television programs were produced. Just two years later, they partnered with DTS to introduce digital surround sound, allowing Indian cinema to leapfrog from mono sound directly to digital. A pivotal moment came in 2005 when the company launched its own digital cinema system under the brand name Qube. This move positioned them as a key player in the global shift from analog to digital cinema. By 2017, the company had rebranded to Qube Cinema Technologies to reflect its primary focus. That same year, a significant merger with UFO Moviez was announced, aiming to create a dominant force in India's digital cinema and in-cinema advertising space, with a combined network of over 7,300 screens. However, due to procedural roadblocks, the merger was called off in early 2019. Despite the terminated merger, Real Image, now operating as a division of Qube Cinema Technologies, continues its journey. It has evolved from a technology reseller to a comprehensive service provider, offering end-to-end digital cinema solutions including mastering, distribution, and playback systems, solidifying its legacy as a key architect of India's modern media landscape.
