Rays Experts is an Indian solar power project development company founded in 2011, with its origins tracing back to a hostel room at IIT Roorkee in 2010. The company was established by Rahul Gupta, who, while studying civil engineering, identified the potential of the solar power sector. After graduating, he initially started a consultancy for solar plant installations before founding RaysExperts to focus on Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) for solar companies. He was later joined by co-founder Nidhi Gupta, a computer science and engineering graduate who manages operations and finance.
The firm operates primarily as a solar park developer and EPC provider, offering end-to-end services for utility-scale and rooftop solar projects. Its business model revolves around developing large-scale, privately-owned solar parks with ready-to-move infrastructure, which significantly de-risks projects for its clients. This approach allows customers, which range from commercial and industrial (C&I) entities to independent power producers, to invest in solar energy without managing land acquisition, transmission line setup, and regulatory approvals. Revenue is generated through EPC services for setting up these power plants and long-term operations and maintenance (O&M) contracts, where the company charges an annual fee per megawatt. The electricity produced can be used for captive consumption, reducing clients' energy bills, or sold to utilities under power purchase agreements.
Rays Experts provides a comprehensive service that covers the entire project lifecycle, from site identification and financing assistance to the supply of components, construction, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance. A key offering is its development of private solar parks, a segment where it holds a significant market share in states like Rajasthan and Haryana. Over the years, the company has commissioned over 1200 MW of solar projects for more than 300 clients. A notable milestone is the development of a 3,000 MWp solar park in Bikaner, Rajasthan, which is cited as the world's largest privately-owned ultra-mega solar park.
