RateBoard GmbH provides a cloud-based revenue management software designed to automate and simplify pricing strategies for hotels, resorts, and apartment houses of all sizes. The company was founded in Innsbruck, Austria, in July 2015 by Matthias Trenkwalder and Simon Falkensteiner. Both founders grew up with close ties to the South Tyrolean hotel industry, which gave them firsthand insight into the challenges of price setting in a dynamic market. They identified a gap for an intuitive system that could make dynamic pricing accessible without requiring extensive expertise.
The firm's core offering is a software platform that delivers daily, automated price recommendations for the next 365 days. Its algorithm analyzes a wide array of data points, including the hotel's historical and current booking data, competitor pricing, market demand, guest reviews, events, and holidays. This enables clients to optimize occupancy and increase revenue. Key features include an AI-based forecast, a KPI dashboard, competitor and reputation analysis, and an "Autopilot" function that can automatically update prices in the hotel's Property Management System (PMS). The software is designed for seamless integration with over 80 PMS and channel managers. The business model is subscription-based, with licensing fees typically dependent on the number of rooms the client manages.
After its founding, RateBoard developed its first prototype and signed its initial 30 customers in 2016, a year in which the team grew from two to ten employees and opened a second office in Vienna. Berthold Agreiter joined as CTO and part of the founding team in early 2016. The company secured venture funding from investors like Next Floor and AWS Gründerfonds, which fueled further growth and market expansion. A significant milestone was reached in early 2020 when RateBoard was acquired by the Zucchetti Group, a major European software company, becoming a strategic part of its hospitality division. Despite the acquisition, the founders and employees remained with the company to continue its growth trajectory. As of 2025, RateBoard serves over 1,400 hotels and has seen its monthly rate updates surge from around 79,000 in 2020 to over 8 million.
