In 1903, in Barcelona, seven motoring enthusiasts, including notable figures like Enric Cera and artist Ramon Casas, established the Automòbil Club Barcelona. Their goal was to support the growing, yet challenging, world of automobiles by addressing poor road conditions, the lack of signage, and creating the first road maps. The club's influence grew, and in 1906, after receiving a royal distinction from King Alfonso XIII, it was reborn as the Reial Automòbil Club de Catalunya, or RACC. From its inception, the RACC operated on two parallel tracks: providing member services and promoting motorsports. It organized Spain's first-ever circuit race, the Copa Catalunya, in 1908. The club’s journey was not just about racing; it was about building an entire ecosystem for the driver. They expanded into roadside assistance, insurance, and even driving schools, becoming an indispensable part of mobility in the region. A pivotal moment came with the club's push to establish a world-class racing circuit. With the support of the Catalan government, the RACC championed the construction of the Circuit de Catalunya, which opened in 1991. This cemented its role in the international racing scene, hosting Formula 1 and MotoGP events. In 1994, the RACC Foundation was created to focus on road safety and sustainable mobility, marking a significant evolution from a simple motorists' club to a major institution dedicated to the entire spectrum of mobility.
