Quickcue, LLC, initially incorporated as Rogue Robot, LLC, emerged from the Chattanooga, Tennessee, entrepreneurial scene in 2011. The company was co-founded by Jackson Alexander, Jeffrey Cole, and Aaron Welch, with the initial concept being developed by Welch during a local 48-hour launch event. The firm quickly secured investor interest, culminating in a Series A funding round of $1.4 million on October 9, 2012, with backing from Chattanooga Renaissance Fund and Blank Slate Ventures.
The company's core business was centered on a guest management system for the restaurant industry. Operating via an iPad-based platform, Quickcue provided restaurants, particularly those managing significant walk-in traffic, with a suite of digital tools. This service allowed establishments to manage their waitlist, handle reservations, organize table assignments, and send automated notifications to waiting patrons. A key feature was its ability to capture and store specific guest preferences, enabling restaurants to offer a more personalized hospitality experience.
Quickcue's trajectory as an independent entity concluded on December 16, 2013, when it was acquired by OpenTable, Inc., a dominant player in the online restaurant reservation market. The cash acquisition was valued at approximately $11.5 million. The strategic rationale for OpenTable was to integrate Quickcue's technology to enhance its own mobile waitlist and guest management capabilities for restaurants that are primarily walk-in based but also accept reservations. Following the acquisition, the nine-person Quickcue team was integrated into OpenTable's technology division but continued to operate from their Chattanooga office. OpenTable planned to support Quickcue's existing 40 customers but intended to discontinue the product for new clients while developing a next-generation solution incorporating the acquired technology.
