Pyser-SGI Group

The story of Pyser-SGI is one of heritage and evolution, with roots tracing back to 1848. The modern iteration of the company was formed through the integration of several specialized UK firms, most notably the 1997 purchase of Graticules Limited. Graticules itself has a storied past, founded by the Rheinberg family to produce precision optical components. This acquisition created a multi-divisional entity focused on electro-optical products for defense, security, and broadcast sectors. The company carved out a niche as a key supplier of sophisticated optical technology. Its product lines included night vision and thermal imaging devices, weapon sights, military compasses, and small arms collimators. These products were used by clients such as NATO armed forces, various police forces, and the US Army, establishing Pyser-SGI as a critical player in the global defense and security market. A significant chapter in the company's journey unfolded in September 2015 when it was acquired by the investment firm Privet Capital for an undisclosed sum. At the time of the acquisition, Pyser-SGI employed around 70 people and had a turnover of approximately £10 million. The new ownership aimed to improve operations and expand the company's international customer base. Following the acquisition, the company rebranded, changing its trading name to Pyser Optics Ltd. Later, in 2019, the Graticules division was sold to SDI Group plc, marking another evolution in the company's long history.
