Founded in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2014 by Odunayo Eweniyi, Somtochukwu Ifezue, and Joshua Chibueze, the company aimed to address the inefficiencies and high unemployment rates in the Nigerian job market. The founding was inspired by Eweniyi's personal post-graduation job-seeking frustrations, fueling a desire to better harness technology for recruitment. After a period of bootstrapping, the company secured its first seed investment from Leadpath Nigeria in August 2014, which helped to officially launch the platform in October 2014.

The company provides a database of vetted job candidates for recruiters and employers, who can post jobs or use the 'Prolist' feature to directly source talent. For job seekers, PushCV offers a platform to search for verified jobs and access career development tools. Beyond job matching, the business model incorporates capacity building, offering free online courses in areas like marketing and communication to help candidates improve their skills. The founding team, who also co-founded the successful fintech company PiggyVest, leveraged their experiences from earlier ventures to build PushCV. Odunayo Eweniyi, a first-class Computer Engineering graduate from Covenant University, brought a deep understanding of the Nigerian technology landscape, having also worked as a technology journalist.
