In 1998, with a vision for a future free from fossil fuels, Dr. Götz Heidelberg spun off the fuel cell division from his company, Magnet-Motor GmbH, to create what is now Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH. The German-based company focused on developing and producing hydrogen PEM (proton exchange membrane) fuel cells and hybrid systems. These systems generate electricity from the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen, with water as the only byproduct, positioning the company in the clean energy sector. The core of their business is creating these fuel cell systems for a variety of uses. They cater to stationary applications, like emergency power for critical infrastructure, as well as mobile solutions for heavy-duty vehicles, trains, and ships. This strategy allows them to provide power across multiple sectors without a local carbon footprint. A significant milestone occurred on October 31, 2006, when its parent company, Proton Motor Power Systems plc, was admitted to trading on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange under the ticker PPS. This move provided access to public capital to further the company's commercialization efforts. Today, under the leadership of majority shareholder Dr. Faiz Francois Nahab, who invested in 2008, the company continues to focus on its commercial rollout. With over two decades of experience, Proton Motor has established itself as a key player in hydrogen technology, aiming to expand production and solidify its position in the growing market for renewable energy solutions.
