Prosveshchenye
Educational publisher of textbooks and teaching aids.
Prosveshchenye is a Soviet and later Russian publishing house specializing in educational and pedagogical literature, founded in 1930. Initially established as the Educational and Pedagogical Publishing House "Uchpedgiz RSFSR" by a resolution of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR, its primary goal was to support the state's campaign for universal compulsory primary education.
The company's history is marked by several transformations. In 1964, Uchpedgiz was merged with the Publishing House of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences and renamed Prosveshchenye. It became the leading supplier of educational literature for all schools in Russia. The publishing house lost its monopoly on school textbooks in the early 1990s following the passage of the "Law on Education." In 2011, the company was privatized and acquired by the Olma Media Group. A significant transformation occurred in 2017, restructuring the publisher into a group of companies. By 2021, Sberbank, VEB.RF, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) each acquired a 25% stake in the company.
Prosveshchenye Group operates a business model that serves state and corporate clients, as well as directly engaging with teachers, students, and parents. Its core business remains publishing textbooks, workbooks, methodological guides, maps, atlases, and electronic teaching aids. The company has expanded its offerings to include digital products, professional development programs for educators, and equipping educational institutions. It has also entered into partnerships with international publishers like Express Publishing and Klett.
