PressPlay TV, legally known as Press Play Private Limited, was a Delhi-based video content discovery and distribution platform founded in 2013 by former Zomato executives Anand Sinha and George Abraham. Sinha, who served as CEO, was previously the National Sales Head at Zomato, while Abraham, the COO, led sales for Zomato in India. The venture began with a pilot project of renting tablets pre-loaded with movies to long-distance bus passengers.

The company evolved from this asset-heavy model to a technology-centric approach, aiming to solve internet connectivity issues for video streaming in India. Its core product became a mobile application that operated on a hybrid online-offline model. The service's unique selling proposition was its network of Wi-Fi hotspots, installed in locations like inter-city buses, cafes, and trains. Users could connect to these hotspots to stream or download content from the PressPlay app at high speeds without incurring mobile data charges. When not connected to a hotspot, the app functioned as a standard online video streaming service.

The platform's revenue was primarily generated through advertising. It also planned to introduce premium content through subscription (SVoD) and transactional (TVoD) models to diversify its revenue streams. The app offered a wide range of content, including movies, TV shows, and trending internet videos across more than 50 channels, by forging partnerships with content providers like Lehren TV, Sun Network, Sony India, Eros, Shemaroo, and Viacom.

PressPlay secured a total of $2.7 million in funding over three rounds. This included an angel round of $500,000 in August 2014, a significant seed round of $2.2 million led by Sequoia Capital (now Peak XV Partners) in April 2015, and a Series A round in June 2016 from investors including SD Ventures. Despite its initial growth and investor backing, the company is now listed as deadpooled.
