Prematics

Founded in 2005, Prematics, Inc. operated as a provider of managed information technology services tailored for the healthcare industry, with a particular focus on mobile-based medication management. The company was established to improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of healthcare by providing the critical IT infrastructure that connects providers with other stakeholders. In December 2010, Prematics was acquired by NaviNet, America's largest real-time healthcare communications network, and subsequently operated as a subsidiary.

The company's core offering was ScriptTone, a comprehensive medication management system. This platform equipped healthcare providers at the point of care with the ability to review up-to-date patient medication history, check for drug interactions, and access a patient's formulary to select equivalent medications. It enabled physicians to generate and electronically process new prescriptions and renewals through the SureScripts-RxHub network. Additionally, Prematics provided a service called Care Communication, a messaging system that alerted doctors to vital patient data and facilitated a two-way flow of information between doctors, patients, pharmacies, and health plans. This system was designed to be used on handheld devices, allowing physicians to manage their clinical workflow and access information directly in the exam room.

Prematics' business model initially centered on partnerships with insurers, who would sponsor the technology for physicians. The company provided the necessary software, hardware, and network services to physician practices, with insurers reimbursing Prematics through transaction fees over time. This approach aimed to remove the adoption barriers for physicians. Following the acquisition, NaviNet planned to integrate Prematics' mobile solutions with its own offerings, selling the e-prescribing services directly to providers while also continuing the sponsored model. Before its acquisition, Prematics had raised significant funding, including a Series B round led by Health Evolution Partners in 2008 and a Series C round in 2009, totaling over $10 million in known funding.
