Pratiksha Hospital, established in Guwahati, Assam, is a super-specialty hospital focusing on women's and children's healthcare, particularly in IVF and fetal medicine. The hospital was founded in 1995 by Dr. Pramod Kumar Sharma, a key figure in developing IVF treatment in eastern India. Dr. Sharma, an alumnus of Assam Medical College and Guwahati Medical College, furthered his expertise with international training in Australia and Europe. A significant milestone was achieved on February 13, 1997, with the delivery of the group's first IVF baby.
The hospital provides services across various specialties including Assisted Reproductive Technique (IVF), Minimal Invasive Surgery, Maternity, Pediatrics with a Neonatal ICU, Orthopaedics, and Onco-Surgery. The business operates on a model of providing specialized medical care, attracting patients from the northeastern region of India and neighboring countries like Bhutan. In 2007, the facility expanded to a 50-bedded hospital specializing in IVF, minimal invasive surgery, and neonatal care. The Pratiksha Group has also expanded its footprint by opening W Pratiksha Hospital in Gurgaon and plans a chain of IVF centers across India. To address a regional shortage of qualified staff, Dr. Sharma established the Pratiksha School of Nursing in 2011.
In a major development on August 11, 2025, Rainbow Children's Medicare Limited (RCML) announced the acquisition of a 76% majority stake in Pratiksha Hospital for an enterprise value of approximately ₹171 crore. This acquisition marks RCML's entry into Northeast India, expanding its network to 21 hospitals. Following the deal, the hospital is set to be rebranded as 'Pratiksha Rainbow Children's Hospital' and will be integrated into Rainbow's national network. Dr. Sharma and his family will retain the remaining stake in the hospital. The hospital has an average revenue per occupied bed of over ₹40,000 and a margin between 23-25%.
