Based in Paris, France, PowerUp provides cloud-based battery analytics software designed to enhance the safety, performance, and profitability of battery assets. The company was founded in 2017 as a spin-off from CEA-Liten, a major European research institute for alternative energies, leveraging over a decade of research and a portfolio of patented algorithms. Arnaud Delaille, a co-founder and the current Chief Science and Innovation Officer, previously served as the Head of the Battery Laboratory at CEA-Liten, bringing deep expertise in electrochemistry to the company.
PowerUp's core product is its Battery Insight® platform, a vendor-agnostic, AI-driven software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution. This platform analyzes operational data such as current, voltage, and temperature from lithium-ion battery systems to provide actionable insights. A key feature is its ability to offer predictive maintenance alerts, identifying potential safety incidents and signs of degradation up to nine months in advance, a significant improvement over standard battery management systems (BMS). The software provides precise measurements of a battery's State of Health (SoH) and State of Charge (SoC), enabling operators to optimize performance and extend asset lifespan. By processing field data, the platform helps clients in maintenance scheduling, usage arbitrage, and overall asset management.
The company serves owners and operators of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), as well as companies managing fleets of electric vehicles (EVs) and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Its business model is based on selling licenses for its cloud platform, often structured per megawatt-hour (MWh). In November 2024, PowerUp was acquired by the Socomec Group, a multinational firm specializing in low-voltage electrical network control and safety. This acquisition aims to create synergies, particularly since Socomec is an active battery storage system integrator, ensuring PowerUp's long-term development with an industrial partner. The company has secured $5.97 million in funding through four rounds, with investors including EDF, Supernova Invest, and Orange Fab France.
