In the world of server manufacturing, particularly in China, one name that has been making waves for over two decades is Baode Computer Systems, also known as Powerleader. Founded in 1999 by Li Ruijie and Zhang Yun, the company started with a focus on the research, development, and production of servers. Baode carved out a niche for itself by providing IT products and solutions to a wide range of industries including government, internet, education, and finance. A key part of Baode's strategy has been its emphasis on independent research and development. This has allowed the company to offer flexible and customized solutions, from individual boards to complete server systems. This capability has been crucial in a competitive market, enabling them to become a significant player, ranking among the top five domestic server brands in China and in the top nine globally for multiple years. While the company has been a private entity for most of its history, its parent group, Powerleader Science & Technology Group, was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (Stock code: 8236). More recently, Baode Computer Systems itself has been reported to be in the IPO process. A notable event in their journey was the 2023 announcement of their own x86 CPU, the Powerstar P3-01105. This move sparked discussion as the chip was reportedly developed with support from Intel and bore similarities to an existing Intel processor, a development Chairman Li Ruijie described as a commercial move for the PC market.
