Plum TV was an American broadcast television network launched in 2004 by Tom Scott, co-founder of Nantucket Nectars, alongside film producer Cary Woods, Chris Glowacki, and Brook Altman. Scott, an entrepreneur who successfully sold Nantucket Nectars to Cadbury Schweppes in 2002, transitioned into film and television production, founding Plum TV as a network catering to affluent audiences. The company's business model focused on creating and broadcasting lifestyle content in wealthy vacation communities, targeting a desirable demographic for high-end advertisers. Its programming centered on topics like home and real estate, food and wine, travel, and wellness, distributed via cable providers in exclusive locales such as Aspen, the Hamptons, Nantucket, and Miami Beach.
The network attracted notable investors, including singer Jimmy Buffett and former MTV head Tom Freston. Despite its high-profile backing and award-winning content, including multiple Emmy Awards, Plum TV faced significant financial challenges. In January 2012, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, reporting liabilities of $19 million against assets of $8.6 million. Following the bankruptcy auction, the assets were acquired in March 2012 for $1.17 million by Joseph Varet and Morgan Hertzan, the co-founders of LXTV. The new co-presidents aimed to expand Plum TV into a national lifestyle network, securing an additional $4.4 million in funding in October 2012 to support this vision. However, the revival was short-lived, and by May 2013, Plum TV had ceased all operations.
