Pipeline Organics is a UK-based clean technology company founded in 2021 by Arielle Torres, Eric Lehder, Andrew Raslan, and Keyvan Jodeiri. The four founders met in 2020 during a program for commercializing academic research and incorporated the company after winning a cash prize. The technology is based on the PhD research of co-founder Keyvan Jodeiri into enzymatic biofuel cells.
The company develops high-efficiency enzymatic biofuel cells that generate clean, renewable electricity from industrial wastewater. Its core product, TankArc™, utilizes the biological energy in organic waste, such as sugars, to produce electricity. The system leverages 3D printing for its computational electrode designs to increase surface area and can be customized with enzymatic coatings for specific client waste streams. This technology is designed to be retrofitted into existing infrastructure as a plug-and-play, modular solution. The company's goal is to help industrial customers reduce energy costs and carbon emissions.
Initially, Pipeline Organics is targeting the food and beverage industry, along with clients in the water, brewing, and dairy sectors. A case study with investor Coca-Cola Europacific Partners estimated that the technology could replace nearly 35% of a UK bottling site's annual electricity consumption. The company operates on a business model of selling its clean energy technology to industrial clients. In August 2024, Pipeline Organics raised $1.91 million in a seed funding round led by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, adding to a list of investors that also includes Conception X and Vala Capital.
