PinMyPet emerged from the Brazilian technology scene in 2013, founded by Marcos Buson, Bruno Souza, and Ednaldo Souza. The venture, headquartered in Brasilia, Brazil, focused on developing solutions for the pet technology market. Marcos Buson, with a master's degree in Engineering and extensive experience in product management and business development since 2003, brought a significant hardware and software background to the team. His work involved developing over 100 hardware products and advising numerous companies, from startups to multinationals, on launching their solutions.
The company developed a wearable device for pets designed to track their location and analyze behavior. The product was a collar-mounted hardware unit featuring a GPS module for real-time location tracking, a GPRS module for data transmission, and an accelerometer to monitor activity patterns. This allowed pet owners to see where their pet was and gain insights into their activity levels. Accompanying the hardware was a mobile application that presented the pet's information on a timeline, organized vital records, and sent owners reminders for medications and veterinary appointments. The business aimed to generate revenue through the sale of this hardware and associated services, targeting the consumer market of pet owners.
PinMyPet gained early traction by participating in prominent accelerator programs, receiving backing from 500 Startups in Mountain View, as well as WOW/Startup Brasil. The company successfully raised capital through several funding rounds, including a BRL 350K pre-seed round in November 2014 and a larger BRL 2.50M seed round on December 20, 2015, with investors such as Criatec Fund, Crescera Investimentos, and Triaxis Capital. Despite its initial funding and product development, the company has since been marked as out of business as of January 2019.
