PIESAT

PIESAT Information Technology Co., Ltd. is a satellite operations and application service provider established in 2008. The company was founded by Chairman Wang Yuxiang, who holds a Ph.D. from the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Motivated by the dominance of foreign software in the domestic satellite remote sensing market, Wang founded PIESAT to develop China's own proprietary solutions.

PIESAT develops and provides comprehensive spatial information application solutions, including its flagship PIE (Pixel Information Expert) software series, which holds independent intellectual property rights. This software suite offers tools for processing multi-source remote sensing data, including optical, radar, and hyperspectral imagery. The company also operates PIE-Engine, a remote sensing cloud service platform, and PIE-Map for navigation and GIS functions. Its business model involves selling these software products, offering system design and development, and providing data analysis application services.

The company serves a diverse client base, including government agencies, the military, enterprises, universities, and research institutions. Its applications span various sectors such as environmental monitoring, natural resource management, disaster response, forestry, water resources, and agriculture. In a significant expansion from software to hardware, PIESAT initiated the "Nuwa Constellation" project, a commercial radar satellite constellation. The first batch of four satellites was launched in March 2023, expanding the company's capabilities across the entire satellite industry chain. The company was among the first enterprises to be listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's Sci-Tech Innovation Board (STAR Market) in July 2019.
