Phoniro operates as a specialized provider of integrated digital solutions tailored for the elderly care market, encompassing both home care services and residential nursing homes. The company was founded in 2004 in Halmstad, Sweden, by Johan Hörberg, Magnus Larsson, and Magnus Fröberg. Its inception was the result of a merger between a firm specializing in CRM solutions for municipal home care and another focused on digital key management technology.
The core of the business is the Phoniro Care platform, a comprehensive, modular IT system that functions on a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. This platform allows clients, which include municipalities and private care companies, to select individual solutions or combine them into an integrated system. The product suite addresses several key areas of elderly care. Digital key management eliminates physical keys, allowing caregivers to access client homes and facilities using a mobile application. The platform also includes modules for time and attendance tracking, alarm systems for residential facilities, camera surveillance for alarm verification, and digital medication management to ensure safety and reduce waste.
A significant milestone in Phoniro's history was the 2012 majority stake acquisition by Swedish investment firm Alfvén & Didrikson, which supported its growth and transition from a product-focused entity to a services-based company. This period of expansion culminated in its acquisition by the global access solutions leader ASSA ABLOY in February 2018. Following the acquisition, Phoniro became a strategic component of ASSA ABLOY's Hospitality business unit, forming the foundation of a new vertical dedicated to the elderly care market. The company continues to operate under its own brand, leveraging ASSA ABLOY's international distribution and R&D capabilities to expand its reach in the Nordics, England, the USA, and the Netherlands.
