The company focused on creating a software environment for mask layout, process flow, and simulation for fabricating these advanced components. The business provided technologies for designing and manufacturing photonic integrated circuits, which are crucial for applications ranging from data communications to biomedical sensors. Its core product, OptoDesigner, became a key tool for engineers, allowing them to design and simulate how light behaves on a chip before committing to expensive manufacturing processes. This software served as a bridge between the conceptual design and the physical fabrication of photonic devices. The company's trajectory took a significant turn in February 2018 when it was acquired by Synopsys, a global leader in electronic design automation (EDA). This acquisition integrated PhoeniX Software's layout and physical simulation tools into Synopsys's broader portfolio. The move signaled the growing importance of photonics in the semiconductor industry, as integrating light-based components with traditional electronics became critical for increasing data speeds and reducing power consumption.
