The story of Phillips & Temro Industries (PTI) begins not as a single entity, but as two parallel paths destined to merge. In 1920, James B. Carter founded a manufacturing business in Winnipeg, Canada, initially making simple items like oil funnels. His enterprise soon shifted to producing heating products to solve a fundamental problem: getting vehicles to start in the harsh Canadian cold. Meanwhile, in the 1940s, Phillips Moses started his own company in Minneapolis, also specializing in engine heaters. Both companies thrived independently for decades, focused on the essential, unglamorous work of thermal management. The major turning point came in 1976 when the two businesses merged to form Phillips & Temro Industries. This combination created a more formidable player in the OEM and aftermarket for vehicle thermal systems. The company's journey has been one of steady growth and strategic acquisitions. A significant event occurred in March 2015 when the private equity firm Harbour Group acquired PTI. This acquisition was intended to provide resources to accelerate growth through new product development and further acquisitions. True to that strategy, PTI has continued to expand, acquiring companies like Arctic Fox in 2013 to enter the fuel and fluid heating market, and later, EVoCharge in 2019, marking a clear move into the electric vehicle charging space. Today, from its headquarters in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, PTI operates as a global supplier of heating, cooling, and now, electrification solutions for a wide range of vehicles and industries.
