The story of Personna begins not with a startup, but with an invention. In 1875, the Kampfe Brothers introduced the very first safety razor made in the United States, a product that would lay the groundwork for a new industry. This innovation led to the formation of the American Safety Razor Company, which eventually acquired the Personna brand name in 1953. The business became a pioneer, introducing the first stainless steel blade in 1963 under the Personna brand. This history of innovation and market presence made it an attractive asset. The company's journey through the world of corporate giants began in 1960 with an acquisition by Philip Morris. This was followed by a management buyout in 1977, before another major event decades later. In 2011, Energizer Holdings, the battery and personal care giant, acquired American Safety Razor, including Personna. The path took another turn in 2015 when Energizer spun off its personal care division into a new, publicly traded company: Edgewell Personal Care. Edgewell retained the Personna brand for its consumer shaving products, while the private label division that operated Personna.com was later rebranded to Edgewell Custom Brands in 2022. Today, Personna exists as a heritage brand within a major consumer goods corporation, a testament to over a century of manufacturing history.
