Personium

Personium provides an open-source Personal Data Store (PDS) server software. This distributed PDS server allows various applications on multiple devices to read and write data, functioning as a Backend-as-a-Service (BaaS) solution. The platform is designed to handle a wide range of data, from electronic medical records to simple games. A core feature is its interconnectability, which enables secure data sharing among different data stores. This facilitates complex cooperation between multiple organizations and individuals by allowing controlled access to data; for example, a doctor could access a patient's blood pressure data that was recently recorded by a care worker.

Founded in 2014 and based in Tokyo, Japan, Personium operates with the vision that ethical and transparent use of personal data contributes to a fair and sustainable data economy. The project is an active member of MyData Global and received the MyData Operator Award in both 2020 and 2021, which recognizes service providers for their human-centric approach to personal data. The platform's architecture is built on REST APIs, primarily using OData and WebDAV protocols, making it compatible with any OS or development language. Personium provides management tools such as UnitManager, a GUI for managing unit cells, and HomeApp for PDS management. The project is unfunded and its technology is available on GitHub, consisting of modules like personium-core and personium-engine for server-side JavaScript execution.
