Penguin Digital Inc. operated as a mobile technology company focused on connecting people with their photos through physical products. Founded in 2010 by Josh Friedman and Reuven Moskowitz, the New York-based firm secured $1 million in seed funding from investors including Globis Capital.

The company's core business involved an image monetization engine that enabled consumers and other businesses to print digital photos onto a variety of items. Its primary product was a consumer-facing iPhone application called MoPho, short for Mobile Photo Factory. This app allowed users to order physical prints of photos directly from their iPhone's camera roll, as well as from social networks like Facebook and Instagram. Beyond standard prints, MoPho enabled the creation of personalized merchandise, including mugs, key chains, bags, and phone cases.

Penguin Digital also served other businesses through a software development kit (SDK). This B2B offering allowed third-party app developers to integrate the same photo-printing and product-creation functionalities directly into their own mobile applications, providing them with a new revenue stream. In September 2012, the online photo service giant Shutterfly acquired Penguin Digital for an undisclosed amount. Following the acquisition, the Penguin Digital team was integrated into Shutterfly to establish a new technology center in New York City, and the MoPho app was set to be rebranded as part of Shutterfly's mobile offerings.
