In 1983, from Temple, Texas, founder Greg Gilkerson started Professional Datasolutions, Inc., now PDI Technologies. The initial mission was to build software to help convenience store retailers and petroleum wholesalers run their businesses. For over thirty years, the company grew steadily, building a loyal customer base with its enterprise resource planning (ERP) software that handled everything from accounting to inventory and supply chain management. The story shifts in 2015 when PDI took on its first private equity investment from Luminate Capital Partners. This marked the beginning of a new chapter. A year later, TA Associates acquired a majority stake, with the explicit goal of accelerating growth through strategic acquisitions. This triggered a rapid expansion, as PDI began acquiring other software companies to broaden its offerings and international reach. The pace didn't slow. In 2017, Genstar Capital made a significant investment alongside TA Associates to further fuel global expansion and product innovation. This partnership supercharged PDI's strategy, leading to a string of acquisitions, including companies that added fuel pricing, logistics, and marketing cloud solutions to its portfolio. Today, PDI's software is the backbone for over 200,000 locations in more than 50 countries, a testament to its evolution from a niche software provider to a global leader in the convenience retail and petroleum ecosystem.
