ParLevel Systems provides a comprehensive suite of hardware and software tools designed for the unattended retail industry. The company primarily serves operators of vending machines, micro markets, and office coffee and delivery services. Its core offering is a Vending Management System (VMS), a cloud-based platform that enables operators to remotely monitor their business in real-time. This system provides tools for dynamic route planning, inventory management, warehouse oversight, and alerts for machine malfunctions, all accessible from a central dashboard.
The company's hardware products include the PayPlus cashless payment reader, which accepts credit/debit cards, mobile payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay, and EMV chip cards. For the micro market segment, ParLevel offers kiosk solutions, such as the Micro Market Max 2.0 and the smaller Mini kiosk, which can be paired with various fixtures, shelving, and refrigerators to create customized self-checkout experiences. The business model appears to be B2B, generating revenue through the sale of its hardware and subscription-based access to its SaaS platform.
Founded in 2012, ParLevel originated from the Geekdom startup incubator in San Antonio, Texas. Co-founders Luis Gonzalez and Walter Teele, recent graduates of UTSA and Trinity University respectively, met at a startup event and were inspired by Gonzalez's uncle, a vending machine owner in Mexico who lacked a way to remotely monitor his inventory. They developed a module to connect vending machines to the internet for real-time data transmission. They were soon joined by Alan Munson, a seasoned vending operator, and Rafael Barroso. The company participated in the Techstars Cloud accelerator program in 2013 and secured funding from investors including the Geekdom Fund, Alamo Angels, and Techstars. In June 2022, ParLevel Systems was acquired by 365 Retail Markets, a major player in the self-service retail technology sector, for a sum reported to be in the tens of millions of dollars.
