Parcify, a Belgian logistics startup, was established in 2015 by co-founders Patrick Leysen and Jonas Coenen to address the common issue of missed parcel deliveries. Leysen's background in retail as a store manager for Delhaize and his subsequent experience in e-commerce provided a practical foundation for tackling last-mile delivery challenges. The company developed a mobile application that centered on delivering packages to a person's real-time location rather than a fixed address, utilizing the geolocation capabilities of smartphones.
The business operated on a model of convenience, connecting e-commerce platforms and retail stores with a network of local couriers. This allowed online shoppers to have their purchases delivered wherever they were, at a time of their choosing. The service worked by providing the user with a unique Parcify delivery address for their online orders. Once a package arrived at a Parcify hub, the recipient would receive a notification and could then schedule the final delivery, tracking the courier in real-time via the app. For its corporate clients, Parcify offered an API that could be integrated directly into their checkout process, offering a flexible delivery option to customers.
In 2016, the company secured a strategic partnership with bpost, the Belgian postal service, which also took a shareholding in the startup. This collaboration was aimed at leveraging bpost's extensive network to support Parcify's growth. The relationship culminated in the acquisition of Parcify by bpost in 2017, integrating the startup's technology and service model into the national postal operator's broader e-commerce logistics strategy. Following the acquisition, Parcify's focus shifted slightly to also serve the local retailer market, bridging the gap between large-scale next-day delivery and retailers managing their own logistics.
