P-1 AI, a San Francisco-based firm founded in 2024, is developing an artificial general intelligence (AGI) for engineering complex physical systems. The company emerged from stealth in April 2025, securing a significant $23 million seed funding round led by Radical Ventures, with participation from investors like Village Global, Schematic Ventures, and prominent angel investors from the AI community.

The founding team's experience is central to its strategy, combining expertise in aerospace, AI research, and software engineering. CEO Paul Eremenko was formerly the CTO at Airbus and United Technologies, providing deep insight into industrial engineering needs. He is joined by Head of AI Aleksa Gordić, a former research engineer at Google DeepMind and Microsoft, and Head of Engineering Adam Nagel, who led engineering at Airbus's Silicon Valley innovation center. This leadership brings together knowledge of large-scale industrial challenges and advanced AI model development.

P-1 AI's core product is "Archie," an AI agent designed to function as a cognitive automation tool for engineering teams. Archie's capabilities include interpreting design requirements, developing product concepts, performing initial design trade-offs, and selecting appropriate engineering tools for detailed analysis. The system is not intended to replace existing computer-aided design (CAD) or simulation software but to automate the cognitive tasks that precede their use, effectively acting as a junior engineer on the team. A key technical challenge in this field is the scarcity of training data for physical systems. P-1 AI addresses this by creating large-scale, physics-based synthetic design datasets, which also incorporate supply chain information, to train its AI models in quantitative and spatial reasoning.

The company's business model targets industrial Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and other companies with large engineering departments. The initial market application for Archie, set to deploy later in 2025, is the design of data center cooling systems. Following this launch, P-1 AI plans a phased expansion into more complex domains, including industrial systems, automotive, heavy machinery, and eventually, aerospace and defense. The ultimate goal is to integrate an AI agent like Archie into every engineering team, enhancing productivity by handling repetitive design tasks and learning from real-world feedback to tackle increasingly complex challenges.
