Mogumo is a direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand offering a frozen meal delivery service specifically for toddlers aged one to six. The company was established to address the lack of convenient and healthy meal options for young children, a gap identified by founder Yusaku Kurose through personal experience as a working parent. The service was launched by its parent company, Oxxx Inc., on May 5, 2022, and is based in Fukuoka.
The business operates on a subscription-based model where customers can choose from various plans, such as 6, 12, or 18-meal sets, delivered on a recurring basis. Mogumo's meals are developed under the supervision of registered dietitians to ensure they are nutritionally balanced for a child's developmental stage. The meals are handmade, pre-portioned to around 100g, and can be prepared in about three minutes by heating, offering a convenient solution for busy parents. The company emphasizes creating a positive eating experience for the child, not just providing nutrition for the parent's peace of mind.
Mogumo was founded by Yusaku Kurose, who serves as the CEO of Oxxx Inc. Before starting his own company in March 2021, Kurose gained experience in e-commerce and worked at a beauty-related startup. His personal struggle with finding adequate meal choices for his child after moving to Fukuoka inspired the creation of Mogumo, after surveying 1,500 parents and finding a near-universal challenge with toddler meals. Since its launch, the service has sold over 300,000 meals within its first 13 months and secured ¥180 million in a Pre-Series A funding round in June 2023 from investors including Nippon Venture Capital.
