Osimis

Osimis, a Belgian company founded in 2015, established itself as a developer of a medical imaging AI platform before being acquired by the German AI company deepc in February 2024. The company was founded by Yves Warnant, Frederic Lambrechts, Alain Mazy, and Sebastien Jodogne. The venture originated from the global success of Orthanc, an open-source DICOM server for healthcare and medical research that was initiated in 2011 by CSO Sébastien Jodogne at the University Hospital of Liège. Based on this technology, Osimis developed its commercial platform, Lify, which provided a user-friendly way for healthcare organizations to manage and exchange medical imaging studies.

The firm's business model revolved around providing its software solution and related services to enable interoperability for clinical and medical research clients, such as hospitals and medical companies. The Lify platform allowed for streamlined inter-hospital exchanges, secure data sharing with patients, and integration with third-party artificial intelligence partners. Its core function was to simplify the distribution and integration of imaging technology within radiology workflows, offering features like data extraction from Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), data anonymization, and report generation. The acquisition by deepc, a Munich-based company specializing in an AI operating system for radiology called deepcOS, marked a significant strategic milestone. Founded in 2017 by Dr. Franz Pfister, Julia Moosbauer, Michael Meyerhoff, and Paul Mayer, deepc aims to bridge the gap between AI development and clinical practice. By integrating the Osimis platform, deepc enhanced its own technological capabilities and product offerings, specifically strengthening its AI infrastructure for radiology at a larger scale. For former Osimis customers, the acquisition provides access to a wider array of features and AI solutions available through the deepcOS marketplace, which supports faster and more accurate diagnoses.
