Orgafeed is a Thai company founded in 2018 that specializes in producing sustainable pet food and treats from insect protein. The company, based in Bangkok, uses black soldier fly larvae which are fed a diet of pre-consumed food waste, operating on a circular economy model to upcycle food surpluses. This approach aims to provide healthy, affordable, and environmentally friendly pet nutrition.
The company was co-founded by Ittikorn Thepmani, who holds the title of Circular Economy Officer. Orgafeed's consumer-facing brand is called Laika, which offers a range of dog foods and treats, with plans to expand into products for cats. The business model focuses on the rising trends of humanization and premiumization in the pet industry, where consumers are increasingly seeking healthier and more sustainable product options. The use of insect protein significantly lowers the environmental impact in terms of emissions, land, and water usage compared to traditional livestock protein.
Orgafeed has received investment from Thai Union Group's Corporate Venture Capital fund and was part of the first cohort of the SPACE-F food-tech accelerator, which is co-founded by Thai Union. This partnership allows Orgafeed to collaborate with Thai Union's pet care division, i-Tail, to scale its operations and enhance its product offerings.
