Opus Major is a Paris-based game development studio founded in January 2023 by CEO Jean-Nicolas Vernin and CCO Pierre-Armand Nicq. The company secured $10 million in a seed funding round led by Griffin Gaming Partners and Alven to support the development of its debut title. The founders bring extensive experience from the gaming industry; Vernin previously co-founded mobile developer Madbox and worked at Gameloft, while Nicq spent five years at Ubisoft before joining Madbox in 2021.
The studio's mission is to create social, interactive experiences by combining music and gaming. Their first project, codenamed Opus #1 and officially titled MAJJAM, is a cross-platform, multiplayer adventure where music is the core mechanic. In the game, players form bands of heroes to combat a force that is silencing the world, using music to fight enemies, shape the environment, and heal the world. The game is designed as a "musical sandbox" accessible to players regardless of their musical background, emphasizing creativity and collaboration over rhythm-based challenges. A limited-access playable version of MAJJAM is planned for release in 2025, with a playtest scheduled for September.
