Opside is a decentralized ZK-RaaS (ZK-Rollup as a Service) platform that also functions as a Proof of Work (PoW) network for Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) mining. The company has developed a three-layer infrastructure platform that allows Web3 developers to generate and deploy their own zkEVM application chains with a single click, without needing deep expertise in ZK technology or chain node maintenance. The platform was co-founded by Nanfeng, who serves as the CEO. In April 2023, Opside secured $4 million in a seed funding round led by Web3.com Ventures to accelerate development and expand its team.
Opside's business model addresses the high hardware and technical costs associated with operating Layer 2 scaling solutions, particularly ZK-Rollups. It offers developers a general-purpose ZK-rollups software development kit (SDK) to build applications on its Layer 3. The platform manages consensus and data availability on its Layer 2, hashing and storing all transactions and data on the Opside chain. For developers, renting a Rollup slot with Opside's native token (IDE) grants them an independent execution environment. The platform supports deploying ZK-Rollups to various base chains, including Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Polygon PoS.
A core feature of Opside is its hybrid Proof of Stake (PoS) and Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism. The PoS mechanism, which requires staking IDE tokens to become a validator, secures the network. The ZK-PoW model creates a computing power market, incentivizing miners to provide the ZKP computational power required by the multitude of ZK-Rollups, which generates a significant revenue stream for miners globally. This structure creates a decentralized hardware infrastructure for Web3 applications, such as games and social networks, that demand faster transaction processing and lower fees.
