OneSixOne

OneSixOne is the brand name for the business incubation center operated by the registered charity Hull Youth Support Trust (HYST). Established in 2015, HYST was founded to replicate the successful model of the London Youth Support Trust (LYST) in the Hull area, following encouragement from The Rank Foundation. The initiative was developed through discussions with Hull City Council, which identified a need for a dedicated incubator for young entrepreneurs and suggested the 161 High Street location. HYST operates as a charitable company with the primary goal of supporting aspiring entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 30, particularly those who are unemployed, under-employed, or otherwise disadvantaged.

The organization's business model is centered on providing tangible support to foster the growth of new ventures and contribute to the local economy. HYST offers heavily subsidized office and co-working space for a two-year period at its OneSixOne facility, located at 161 High Street in Hull. This subsidized rent is designed to make the initial years of business operation more manageable for young founders. The charity's income is generated through a combination of sources, as reflected in its financial filings, to fund its operations and support services. In October 2020, HYST joined the HEY Smile Foundation family to enhance its growth and development, expanding the resources available to its tenants while remaining a distinct charity.

The core service provided by OneSixOne is access to affordable business premises, but the support extends much further. Clients receive one-to-one business advice, personal support, and access to mentoring programs and networking opportunities. This comprehensive support system aims to equip young entrepreneurs with the fundamental skills needed to build commercially viable and sustainable businesses. The building itself is undergoing regeneration, supported by £1.5 million in government funding allocated by Hull City Council, to create a modern youth enterprise hub and business incubation facility. This project focuses on preparing young people for the world of work by allowing them to learn from local business experts and peers in a welcoming environment.
