Omnidrone is a mobile game development studio headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, that was established in 2013.
The company was founded by Gerard Fernandez, Elias Lozano Garcia, and Henrik Marcus. The founding team brought extensive experience from the mobile gaming industry, having previously worked at Digital Chocolate. Notably, Fernandez and Lozano were also co-founders of Microjocs Mobile, a mobile game developer acquired by Digital Chocolate in 2007, showcasing their long-standing collaboration and expertise in the sector.
Omnidrone focuses on creating social and mid-core games for mobile and tablet platforms. The studio's business model centers on developing free-to-play games, with a known title being the strategy game "Dwarfs and Dragons" for iOS and the MOBA game "Titan Brawl". The company's approach combines creative design with a focus on producing engaging, multi-player experiences.
In its early stages, Omnidrone secured significant financial backing. A seed funding round in February 2014 raised $2 million from investors including NGP Capital, London Venture Partners, and Kibo Ventures. This initial investment was aimed at expanding the team and supporting the launch of its first game. The company's growth and potential attracted further investment, culminating in a strategic partnership with US-based mobile games publisher Scopely. This partnership began with investments from Scopely starting in 2018 and was solidified in July 2021 when Scopely invested $50 million across three European studios, including Omnidrone. This collaboration eventually led to the full acquisition of Omnidrone by Scopely in February 2022. Following the acquisition, the approximately 120-person team at Omnidrone was integrated into Scopely's ecosystem to collaborate on a wider portfolio of game projects, with CEO Gerard Fernandez continuing to oversee the studio within Scopely's MMO strategy division.
