Olee Space is a Pune-based photonics and defense technology startup developing next-generation communication and defense systems. Founded in 2023 by IIT Bombay alumnus James Solomon and engineer Suman Hiremath, the company specializes in Free-Space Optical Communication (FSOC), quantum-encrypted networking, and directed energy weapons (DEWs). The legal entity, Citoto Digital Personality Private Limited, was incorporated in October 2020. Solomon, the Founder and CEO, and Hiremath, the Co-Founder and COO, lead the company, which has been engaged in research and development for over five years.
The company's core technology utilizes low-powered infrared laser beams to create ultra-fast, secure, and high-bandwidth data links across terrestrial, aerial, maritime, and space environments. This FSOC technology is designed for various applications, including ground-to-ground, inter-satellite, and ground-to-space links, offering low latency and high resistance to interference. Olee Space is engineering a multi-layered satellite constellation, combining LEO, MEO, and GSO satellites, to provide seamless global connectivity. Security is a key feature, with a Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) enabled mesh constellation designed to offer un-hackable data transmission.
In addition to its communication solutions, Olee Space is developing an indigenous DEW platform for anti-drone, anti-UAV, and anti-satellite operations, featuring precision tracking and real-time neutralization of threats. The company serves the defense, aerospace, and telecom sectors and is in discussions with the Indian armed forces for pilot programs. Key collaborations include partnerships with ISRO, Broadband India Forum, and various government R&D entities. In August 2025, Olee Space secured $3 million in a seed funding round led by Rockstud Capital to scale production, enhance its quantum-secure protocols, and expand its defense technology roadmap.
