NutshellMail was a social network aggregation service that allowed users to manage updates from various social media platforms through a single, consolidated email digest. The service was founded in October 2008 by David Lyman, Mark Schmulen, David Neubauer, and Scott Mury. Initially focused on email consolidation, the company pivoted to social network aggregation as platforms like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and LinkedIn grew in popularity.
The service enabled users to interact with their social networks directly from the email digest, allowing them to update statuses, comment on posts, and send tweets. The primary business model was a free, software-as-a-service (SaaS) tool aimed at helping users, including small businesses, filter through social media noise and manage their online presence more efficiently. NutshellMail gained recognition by winning the fbFund 2009 competition, which was administered by Facebook and funded by Accel Partners and The Founders Fund.
In May 2010, the company was acquired by Constant Contact, an online marketing company. Following the acquisition, NutshellMail discontinued its original email consolidation feature to focus exclusively on social media management. However, in February 2016, Constant Contact announced the shutdown of the NutshellMail service, which officially ceased operations on March 22, 2016.
