Nusku Limited, a Bristol-based technology firm founded in 2022, is focused on disrupting the residential heating sector. The company was established to address the challenge of transitioning UK homes from gas boilers to low-carbon alternatives, a significant market opportunity driven by the phasing out of gas boilers in new builds from 2025. Nusku's inception traces back to a conversation between founder Russell Murchie and a friend in the renewable energy business about the low adoption rate of heat pumps. This led to the formation of the company, which quickly secured an Innovate UK Fast Start Grant, enabling initial product development.
The leadership team combines deep engineering and commercial expertise. Founder and CEO, Russell Murchie, is a fluid dynamics engineer with 17 years of experience at Dyson, where he led large global teams in aerothermal systems. Co-founder Andy Mckay brings extensive experience from the energy startup sector, having been involved in smart meter, EV charger, and energy SaaS businesses, and served on the board of myenergi. The team also includes Finance Director Matt Whitefoot, another Dyson alumnus, and CCO Matt Broadway, former European President of SharkNinja.
Nusku is developing a patent-pending home heating system centered on air source heat pump technology. The product is engineered to be a direct, cost-effective replacement for gas combi-boilers, a key differentiator in the market. It aims to eliminate the need for significant and costly home modifications typically associated with heat pump installation, such as replacing radiators or adding large hot water tanks. The company claims its system can be installed five times faster and 30% cheaper than conventional heat pumps. Nusku's target market includes homeowners making 'distressed purchases'—those needing to replace a failed boiler quickly—by offering a less disruptive and more affordable green solution. The firm operates on a B2B and B2C sales model and has secured nearly £1 million in funding, including a substantial grant from the UK government.
