The story of Nordex begins in 1985 in Give, Denmark. A group of Danish founders launched the company with a focus on developing, producing, and distributing wind turbines. They started with a series of turbines, and by 1995, they had developed the Nordex N50/1000 kW, which at the time was the first series-produced wind turbine in the megawatt class, a significant milestone for the industry. Their journey took a pivotal turn in 2001 when Nordex SE went public, listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. This initial public offering provided the capital needed for further expansion and technological development. The company continued to innovate, pushing the boundaries of what was possible in wind energy. A defining event came in 2016 when Nordex merged with the Spanish company Acciona Windpower. This strategic acquisition significantly broadened Nordex's product range and global market presence. It brought together two major players, combining German engineering with Acciona's expertise in concrete towers and operations in emerging markets. This merger created a new, more powerful entity in the competitive wind energy landscape, setting the stage for its future growth and solidifying its position as a global manufacturer of wind turbines.
