Nodeable Inc. was a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2011 by Dave Rosenberg and Neil Levine. The company positioned itself at the intersection of social networking mechanics and big data analytics for cloud infrastructure management. Rosenberg, the CEO, brought a background in open-source and systems management to the venture, aiming to address the growing complexity of managing cloud services and the vast amounts of data they generate.
The firm secured $2 million in a Series A funding round in July 2011, led by True Ventures with participation from Crosslink Capital. This capital injection was aimed at expanding the private beta of its cloud-based infrastructure analytics service. Nodeable's core offering was a SaaS platform featuring the StreamReduce engine. This technology was designed to aggregate, normalize, and analyze real-time systems data from various cloud and IT sources to identify trends, summaries, and anomalies. The platform presented this complex data through a user interface modeled on social networks, allowing IT staff, developers, and system administrators to interact with their infrastructure more intuitively.
The business model was centered on providing this analytics service to tech companies and software developers. The service was developed using open-source technologies, with the agent written in Python and the platform in Java, and the company planned to open-source some of its own components. In November 2012, Nodeable was acquired by Appcelerator, a mobile platform company, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition was a strategic move by Appcelerator to integrate Nodeable's real-time big data processing capabilities into its Enterprise Mobile Cloud offerings, specifically to help customers analyze the large volumes of data coming from mobile applications. Following the acquisition, Nodeable's StreamReduce technology was slated to be open-sourced under the Apache License.
