Newsletter2Go was established in Berlin in 2011 by co-founders Christoph Beuck and Steffen Schebesta. The venture targeted the email marketing needs of small to mid-sized enterprises (SMEs), aiming to provide an efficient platform for revenue growth. Steffen Schebesta's interest in programming began in his early teens, a passion that evolved into co-founding a web agency and eventually led to the creation of Newsletter2Go. Over eight years, the company grew organically, without venture capital funding, to become a leading email marketing software provider in the German market, serving approximately 185,000 corporate customers by 2019.
A significant milestone occurred in January 2019 when French digital marketing leader Sendinblue (now Brevo) acquired 100% of Newsletter2Go. This strategic merger was aimed at creating a dominant European player in the marketing software sector, combining Sendinblue's broad reach with Newsletter2Go's strong position in the German-speaking market. The leadership team, including the founders and CMO Maximilian Modl, remained at the helm following the acquisition to ensure continuity.
The company operates on a SaaS business model, offering a cloud-based platform for creating and managing email marketing campaigns. Its services were designed specifically for SMEs, agencies, and e-commerce businesses. Revenue is generated through a tiered pricing model based on the number of emails sent per month, rather than the number of subscribers, which provided a cost-effective option for many users. The platform included a drag-and-drop editor, responsive design templates, campaign tracking and analysis features, and transactional email capabilities via its API. A notable feature was the "Credit Payback" system, which rewarded users with well-performing campaigns, encouraging high-quality customer engagement.
