In 2013, three innovative minds, Azhar Iqubal, Deepit Purkayastha, and Anunay Arunav, embarked on a journey to transform how news is consumed. As dropouts from the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology, they shared a vision to make news accessible and concise for the digital age. This vision materialized into Inshorts, a platform that delivers news summaries in just 60 words.
Inshorts began as a simple Facebook page, quickly gaining traction for its unique approach to news delivery. The founders recognized the growing demand for quick, digestible content and capitalized on this trend by launching a dedicated app. Their innovative model attracted significant attention, leading to multiple funding rounds. By 2021, Inshorts had raised a total of $119 million, with a notable Series D round of $60 million led by Vy Capital.
Inshorts' journey wasn't just about funding. In October 2015, the company made a strategic acquisition of Betaglide, a Bangalore-based web analytics startup. This move was aimed at enhancing their technological capabilities and improving user experience.
Today, Inshorts stands as a testament to the power of innovation and adaptability. By focusing on brevity and clarity, the company has carved out a niche in the crowded digital news space, proving that sometimes, less is indeed more.
