New Form Digital
closedDigital entertainment studio for original, cross-platform narratives.
New Form Digital was a digital entertainment and production company focused on creating original scripted series for various digital platforms. It was established in 2014 as an independent venture with backing from Discovery Communications, director Ron Howard, producer Brian Grazer, and other industry figures like Jim Wiatt and Craig Jacobson. Kathleen Grace served as the Chief Creative Officer, leading the company's development and production efforts.
The company's business model centered on redefining how stories are developed, packaged, and distributed for modern audiences. New Form employed an incubator program, similar to a traditional TV pilot season, where it would commission and develop numerous short films. Based on their potential, the company had the option to develop these shorts into full series, which it would then co-produce and distribute online. This strategy involved collaborating with both popular digital-native creators from platforms like YouTube and established talent from traditional media to attract a broad audience. Revenue was generated through distribution deals with platforms such as Vimeo On Demand, Facebook Watch, and TBS.
In January 2019, New Form was acquired by Whistle, a global sports and entertainment media brand. The acquisition was intended to strengthen the combined company's content portfolio for young audiences. Following the acquisition, Kathleen Grace and her creative team were to continue leading the existing production slate and developing new projects under Whistle's leadership.
