Neebula Systems, founded in 2009 by Yuval Cohen, Ariel Gordon, and Shai Mohaban, developed management tools for virtual computing environments. The company's core philosophy was to shift IT operations from a component-centric view to a business service perspective. This approach focused on managing the end-user business services, such as CRM or billing, rather than the individual servers, applications, and network components that support them.
The Israeli-based startup's flagship product was ServiceWatch. This software-as-a-service (SaaS) product automated the discovery and mapping of business services. It created dynamic, run-time maps of all underlying physical, virtual, and storage infrastructure, providing a clear view of how different IT components supported specific business functions. This allowed enterprise clients to gain improved control over IT changes, isolate problems more rapidly, and monitor the health of their services in a more meaningful way. The key benefit was a significant reduction in the time and cost associated with manually mapping these complex relationships.
After raising $5 million in venture capital, the team of approximately 35 employees built out their product. The company's vision for transforming IT operations management (ITOM) by automating the creation of service models caught the attention of ServiceNow. In July 2014, ServiceNow announced its acquisition of Neebula for approximately $100 million in an all-cash transaction. Following the acquisition, ServiceWatch became a foundational component of ServiceNow's IT Operations Management portfolio, eventually evolving into its Service Mapping capability.
