Nedstat, founded in Amsterdam in 1996 by former journalist Hans Veldhuizen and astronomer Michiel Berger, established itself as a significant player in the European web analytics market. The firm provided solutions for web and video analytics, helping businesses to optimize their online marketing efforts and customer experiences. Its flagship product, Sitestat, empowered marketers to enhance customer interactions and improve conversion rates by delivering more personalized online experiences. Additionally, Nedstat developed Stream Sense, a video analytics tool adopted by major European television organizations to measure viewership and engagement.

At the time of the acquisition, Nedstat employed around 125 people. The acquisition was a strategic move by Comscore to accelerate its global expansion, particularly in Europe, and to enhance its Unified Digital Measurement (UDM) platform by integrating Nedstat's census-level data collection capabilities. Following the transaction, Nedstat's co-founder Michiel Berger and CTO Fred Appelman transitioned into senior strategy and technology roles at Comscore, contributing their expertise to the merged entity.
