Established in 1997, Nebula Oy grew into a significant Finnish information and communications technology (ICT) provider before its strategic acquisition. The company carved a niche for itself by offering a comprehensive suite of services that spanned the entire ICT chain, catering primarily to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and SoHo (Small office/Home office) customers. Its business model was centered on providing highly automated and standardized cloud infrastructure services, which generated a substantial recurring revenue stream, accounting for 90% of its income.
Nebula's service portfolio was extensive, encompassing capacity and office services, cloud solutions, secure network connections, and high-quality data centers. The company managed its own backbone network covering Finland's largest economic areas and operated multiple data centers within the country. Specific offerings included email, application, and web hosting services, as well as server and data center solutions. This integrated approach allowed them to deliver turnkey management of their clients' services, positioning them as a key player in the Finnish market.
A significant milestone in Nebula's history occurred in May 2017, when Telia Company announced its acquisition of 100% of Nebula Top Oy. The deal, valued at an enterprise value of €165 million, was completed in the third quarter of 2017 after receiving approval from the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority. At the time of the acquisition, Nebula had approximately 44,000 customers and 145 employees. For the fiscal year 2016, the company reported net sales of €35.1 million. Following the acquisition, Nebula was merged with another Telia-owned entity, Inmics Oy, at the beginning of 2019 to form Telia Inmics-Nebula. This entity continued to operate until November 1, 2023, when it was fully integrated into Telia Cygate Oy and Telia Finland Oyj.
