NanoSono
Developed revolutionary nanotechnology-based platform which enables instant and continuous antimicrobial action in an efficient, permanent and safe way - unlike similar technologies.
NanoSono, founded in 2015 by Ronen Sarusi, Alan Ginsburg, and Gabby Sarusi, is an Israeli-based materials deep-tech company that has developed a nanotechnology platform for antimicrobial solutions. The company's core technology, QUACTIV™, is a nano-composite based on copper and zinc oxide designed to provide continuous and rapid antimicrobial action, eliminating up to 99.9999% of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. This platform technology is engineered to be integrated into a multitude of materials and surfaces, effectively turning them into a permanent "antimicrobial firewall" without the need for reapplication.
The business operates on a B2B and B2G model, following an "Intel inside" concept. NanoSono partners with manufacturers and brand owners across various industries, including paints, fabrics, plastics, cosmetics, and medical devices. Revenue is generated through the sale of its QUACTIV™ material and via revenue-sharing agreements on the end-products that incorporate the technology. The company's platform is versatile and can be coated, sprayed, extruded, or compounded into existing manufacturing processes. This allows for a wide array of applications, from antimicrobial paints used in hospitals to reduce infections, to cosmetic and dermatological products like creams and shampoos, and even textiles for odor-resistant clothing and footwear.
NanoSono's product applications are segmented into four main categories: Q-Derma for dermatological issues, Q-Paint, Q-Fabric, and Q-Poly for polymers. The technology functions through a dual mechanism: electrostatic interaction that disrupts bacterial membrane permeability and the generation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), which induces severe oxidative stress, leading to the microorganism's death. The company holds six families of patents for its compositions and manufacturing processes. Headquartered in Yokneam, Israel, the firm operates seven advanced laboratories and is led by CEO Ori Bar Chaim, a seasoned executive with a background in cybersecurity and defense. The technology department is headed by CTO Dr. Raj Sanguramath. To date, NanoSono has raised a total of $21 million, including a $2 million seed round in December 2022 from investors like the Gadot Group and previously a grant from the European Union.
