MyanCare operates as a digital healthcare platform in Myanmar, connecting patients with doctors through information and communication technology. The company was established in 2018 by CEO Zaw Min Tun. Tun, who previously served as a Regional Manager at Ericsson and holds an MBA from Yangon University of Economics, was inspired to start the company after a 2017 discussion with Dr. Thein Aung, who emphasized that the future of medicine lay in leveraging technology to make healthcare universally accessible. This conversation was the catalyst for creating Myanmar's first telemedicine application. Based in Yangon, MyanCare aims to provide affordable virtual healthcare services across the country, particularly benefiting people in rural and remote areas with limited access to traditional clinics and hospitals.
The business model centers on connecting patients with a network of over 700 doctors across more than 30 specialties for virtual consultations. Revenue is generated from these consultations, with users topping up a wallet within the app to pay for services. MyanCare offers its services to individual consumers and also provides B2B packages for corporate clients, including employee wellness programs and specialized programs for executive health. The company's two core businesses are the MyanCare healthcare app and the YinThway pediatric medical call service. The app allows patients to book appointments and consult with general practitioners and specialists via video, voice, or text chat. It also includes features for electronic medical records (EMR), personal health records, prescription delivery, and health monitoring tools for BMI, blood pressure, and menstrual cycles. The YinThway call center provides 24/7 consultations with pediatricians and has served a significant number of mothers and children.
MyanCare has pursued strategic collaborations to expand its reach. In 2020, it partnered with Prudential Myanmar to provide free consultations to 5,000 individuals. A year later, it worked with Population Services International (PSI) Myanmar to offer 24/7 teleconsultations to pregnant women and mothers. The company has also developed custom software solutions for other healthcare organizations. In July 2020, MyanCare secured US$600,000 in a funding round led by the Japanese investment group SPARX, with participation from IT firm Scala and pharmacy chain AIN Holdings. This funding was intended to strengthen its market position and expand services locally.
