MPortal
Mobile software and services for telecommunication, cable, and media providers.
Founded in 2000, mPortal established itself as a service provider of mobile content and application solutions. The company was headquartered in McLean, VA, and directed its services towards mobile network operators, cable operators, and media companies. The core of mPortal's business was to facilitate the creation, management, and monetization of mobile content and applications across a variety of devices and networks.
The company's flagship product was a comprehensive solution known as SPRINGBOARD, which was composed of the SPRINGBOARD™ Smart Client and the SPRINGBOARD™ Mobile Content Delivery Manager. This platform was designed to enable service providers to offer differentiated mobile data services to their subscribers. A key offering, SPRINGBOARD Care, provided end-users with self-service capabilities such as checking usage, managing their accounts, and paying bills directly from their mobile devices. This positioned mPortal as a strategic partner that allowed clients to concentrate on their primary business activities while relying on mPortal's expertise to launch services that could generate revenue.
In a significant strategic move in June 2015, mPortal was acquired by BroadSoft, a telecommunications company based in Gaithersburg, for an undisclosed amount. Following the acquisition, mPortal became a new division within BroadSoft, focusing on the creation of customized mobile communications for clients. D.P. Venkatesh, the CEO of mPortal at the time, transitioned to the role of vice president of this new division, and mPortal's 20 employees based in the Washington area joined BroadSoft's local team.
